Module 6

Behavioral Assessment

CRM, situational judgment, and team dynamics

Overview

This module evaluates your behavioral competencies critical for aviation safety. Crew Resource Management (CRM) scenarios test your ability to manage crew dynamics, workload, and communication. Situational Judgment Tests (SJT) present workplace situations requiring you to identify the most effective professional response. Both assessments are based on validated aviation psychology frameworks.

Instructions

  1. 1You will complete two assessments: CRM Scenarios and Situational Judgment Tests.
  2. 2CRM Scenarios: Read realistic crew coordination situations and choose the best course of action.
  3. 3Each CRM scenario evaluates multiple dimensions: assertiveness, workload management, situational awareness, error management, and decision-making.
  4. 4Situational Judgment: Select the most effective response to workplace situations from four options.
  5. 5Options are ranked from most to least effective — your score reflects how close your choice is to the ideal response.
  6. 6There is no time limit, but try to respond based on your instinctive professional judgment.

Example Questions

Q1: CRM: The captain is task-saturated during an approach in deteriorating weather. You notice the airspeed is decreasing.

Answer: Call out the airspeed deviation and offer to take over non-essential tasks

This demonstrates assertiveness and workload management — two key CRM competencies.

Q2: SJT: A colleague consistently arrives late to briefings, causing delays for the team.

Answer: Speak privately with the colleague about the impact on the team

Direct, respectful communication is the most effective first step before escalating.

Tips for Best Performance

  • Think about what a competent, experienced professional would do — not what is easiest.
  • CRM is about teamwork, not hierarchy — the best answer often involves communication.
  • For SJT, consider the long-term impact of each option, not just the immediate outcome.
  • Avoid extreme responses (doing nothing or overreacting) — the best answer is usually measured and proportionate.
  • Your results contribute to your overall UAAT Behavioral Profile.
